Engineer (Structural & Civil)
Our Engineers are important to the success of the Canal & River Trust. They are involved in designing and/or managing the design of repairs on a wide range of national historical assets. Engineers are responsible for designing technical solutions, preparing specifications and creating briefing documents for our skilled labour force.
Hydrologist
Our Hydrologists are involved in the management of water resources and flood protection around the network. They require technical knowledge and expertise to help the Trust to meet navigational and other water demands, whatever the weather!
Waterway Operative
Waterway Operatives love working outdoors in all weather and are often involved in towpath upkeep, fencing repairs and painting. They contribute to the maintenance, conservation and improvement of all elements of the waterway network and are sometimes required to be on 24 hour standby for emergency cover.
Ecologist
Our Ecologists and Environmental Scientists conduct surveys and assessments of our waterway environments, animals and plants. They provide advice on soil, land use, biodiversity strategies and environment protection.
Analyst (Finance & Data)
Analysts at the Trust support a variety of important decision making procedures. They are essential for project management and process improvement. Analysts usually work indoors as part of a team to monitor the performance of projects and to communicate data reports.
Geographical Information System Specialist
GIS Specialists deal with all of our mapping systems within the Trust. They need excellent IT and communication skills as they are involved in the collection and delivery of data in a variety of formats including satellite imagery, cartography (maps) and photography.
Water Quality Scientists
Water Quality Scientists test and analyse water samples from our canals and rivers. They report on problems such as erosion and pollution, and they are often involved in implementing solutions and control measures. They are vitally important for helping to maintain the biodiversity of our waterway environments.
