Outdoor Interpretation Boards

We were commissioned by the Tatton Garden Society to design and illustrate a series of bespoke interpretation boards for the Lovell Quinta Arboretum and its National Plant Collections.

This arboretum signage project focused on creating visually engaging, informative interpretation panels that sit harmoniously within the natural landscape. Inspired by the surrounding environment, the designs use a refined, organic aesthetic that complements, rather than competes with, the arboretum’s diverse treescape.

Each interpretation board has been carefully designed to provide an accessible and engaging introduction to the site and its exceptional tree collection. Through a considered blend of illustration, typography and layout design, the content communicates the history, uses and ecological significance of the arboretum, appealing to a wide audience—from casual visitors to horticultural enthusiasts.

The outdoor interpretation panels are built for durability and long-term use, housed in beautifully crafted oak frames that blend seamlessly into the environment while enhancing the natural setting.

Using clear visual storytelling and structured information design, the boards guide visitors through the landscape, encouraging exploration and a deeper connection with the arboretum. The result is a cohesive wayfinding and interpretation system that enhances the visitor experience while respecting the integrity and beauty of the site.
