Co-created School Film Project

To celebrate 225 years of the Swansea Canal, we teamed up with the Canal & River Trust and the Swansea Canal Society to deliver a series of creative workshops to four schools in the Swansea Valley.
For this film project, we worked with KS2 children to co-create a short digital media production inspired by their local canal.

Some children chose to create an entirely fictional story whereas some wanted to use history as their inspiration. Others wanted to talk about the Swansea Canal today and its importance both to wildlife and their well-being. All the schools worked really hard and created some wonderful and varied material. This included collages, illustrations, green screen footage, voice-overs and sound effects. Muddy Publishing collated the resources and brought them to life with sound, animation, maps and graphics. The video production will be on show in a new exhibition in the National Waterfront Museum from April to September 2023. Until then, here are a few visuals of the fantastic work from the four schools.

A big thank you to the teachers and pupils of Ysgol y Cribath, Ysgol Gynradd Trebannws, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and Morriston Primary School for their enthusiasm, energy and creativity.
